Hey y’all! If there is any constant in this world, it’s that I will always have a candle burning. From a never ending pile of dishes and laundry, to having a mess if we’re working on a home project/ DIY, I like to at least have control over one of my senses in the house! I am a clean/fresh scent & fruity/citrus candle lover, so I enjoy having one of those going. My love of the Yankee Candle, “Clean Cotton” scent is intense. They had a sale around Christmas, so I got a few for the bathroom. It literally smells like freshly laundered towels.
In true form, I ripped it open while standing at the mailbox [patience isn’t a quality I occupy]. I however, do have ample uncoordination, so when I dropped the candle, watched it shatter, and roll, there was no real surprise.
“SH*T”.. my Ring doorbell captured as I chased my 22 ounce cotton down the concrete steps. Yep, ruined. Then, I thought, you know what? I didn’t pay $15.90 (on sale from $30) for this to just sit on a shelf and look at it. I need the clean cotton smell in my nose, and I need today.
I grabbed a spoon & gracefully shoveled the rest of the broken glass holding on for dear life off into the trash, & was left with a naked candle. Now my wheels got to turnin’ on if I had an empty Yankee jar I could try and shove it in to. Negative. Looks like I needed to repurpose/restore it a different way. Badda Bing- RESTORE! I am OBSESSED with the Habitat for Humanity Restore, and hoard so many found treasures from there. I knew just the container for my cotton’s new home. If you aren’t a frequent shopper of the Restore, check out my other posts of my finds. I just love it in there, plus, they give back and help build shelters in local communities. Win. Win.
I burrowed into my treasures and found this $3 beauty. I inserted my cotton right into it and while a perfect vertical fit, the candle was a little small around for this vase [ 5 inches x 5 inches]
To remedy this, I lit the candle at the same time as putting it on the electric candle warmer, until the wax heated completely, and leveled out evenly.
(Watch your wick, if it sinks down into the middle of the heated wax, you’ll have to dig it back out). I took mine off of the warmer and a few minutes passed, when the wax began to solidify I used a clothes pin to clip the wick up.
PERFECT! I actually loved it more in this container. I don’t know about you, but I didn’t realize how much I disliked labels/stickers and writing all over my candles until I was left with a simple, cozy, pretty little arrangement. Now excuse me while I go melt all my candles and put them in vases.
